Anna's first wedding

Yesterday, two of our dear friends--Sam and Angie--got married. Brian was best man in the wedding, so my little family was in on some of the behind-the-scenes action. The wedding was beautiful, and the celebration was full of genuinely good-natured, kind-spirited people. I love being around events like that!

I didn't bother to find a sitter for Anna, so I camped out at the back of the sanctuary during the service, expecting to have to dart out the back door three minutes into the ceremony. Much to my surprise, however, Anna made it--sitting on my lap--through the whole thing. Granted, she was coloring on offering envelopes, playing with random trinkets from my purse (including a votive candle which she tried to take a bite of), and eating pretzels, but she made it. I suppose I should confess she wasn't silent, either. She pointed toward the altar and called out, "Daddy!" when she saw Brian come in, she offered several "Mamems" (Amens) every time the pastor began talking, and she tried to encourage the vocalist to sing "Sunshine" instead of the songs indicated in the program. I considered these minor interruptions though and was thankful she was able to hang in there so I could see the wedding. I was really proud of her.

She and my nephew Devin went home with Papa Jeff and Grandma Kay early from the reception so that they, in theory, could get to bed at a decent time. By the time my mom figured out she was locked out of my sister's house, got home, and spent time chasing two too-tired and slap-happy toddlers, however, Anna didn't wind up asleep much before 11:00. She was practically comatose when I picked her up from my parents' and got her home to her own bed. I was hopeful for the opportunity to sleep in this morning, but Anna was up at 8:00. I suppose it could have been worse...
